Emily is a leader with a passion to advance responsible people leadership and good governance for a sustainable, just and fair society. As the Deputy Campus Principal for The UWI Global Campus and a member of the University’s Executive Management Team, Emily Chairs the Evaluations and Promotions Committee and sits on the Campus Appointments Committee.
Emily has a PhD in Accounting (Social and Environmental Reporting) from the University of Dundee, Scotland, 2001. She is a Certified Professional Accountant with CPA Canada, qualifying in 2000 and granted fellowship status in 2014, earned an MPhil Finance from the University of Cambridge, England and a BSc Accounting (First Class Honours), The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados.
She is a Strategic Leadership, Accounting and Sustainable Finance expert with over 30 years of experience in The University of the West Indies (The UWI) system, first as an academic for 17 years and a senior administrator for over 15 years. Her other leadership experiences include serving as a Government Senator and Minister of Planning, Housing and the Environment in the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (2007-2010).
She earned scholarships with the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust, the Association of Commonwealth Universities and the University of Dundee International Students’ Scholarship. Emily is a mother of three children.
