Finding the way back to the true meaning of Performance Management
Performance management was originally created and defined to accelerate the performance of the organization. Until about four years ago, the practice of performance management had lost its original purpose and was largely burdened with the bureaucracy of timelines, OKR’s, ratings, and annual appraisal processes, all linked to a complicated means of defining the compensatory outcome of an individual.
Employees had begun to see performance management as an unfair and untrusted means related to pay decisions. This has deviated from the potential that performance management could offer as a way to aid individual growth and development, wellbeing, and a means to build a trusting, authentic relationship with managers and colleagues.
