UNLEASH World 2024: HR: Consider ‘what skills are needed to enact the company’s strategic priorities’?
At UNLEASH World 2024, Liz Elder, Head of Learning and Development at The LEGO Group, sat down with UNLEASH for an exclusive interview to discuss how the organization has pivoted to a skills-first approach.
Elder took to the stage during this year’s UNLEASH World in Paris to detail how The LEGO Group thinks about skills and learning, rooted in its philosophy of learning through play.
Sitting down with UNLEASH Senior Journalist John Brazier, Elder explained how the organization has moved away from siloed learning to an operating model centered around skills that align with the its strategic goals.
She also detailed how HR and learning leaders should think about a move to a skills-based model, particularly in context of the wider business and growing use of AI.
“The starting point, whether you are skills-based or not, needs to be the business outcome,” Elder tells UNLEASH.
Business leaders understand where [organizations] are going in their three-to-five year strategy, they understand the capabilities, and then it’s the role of the learning organization to extract from that the skills that are needed to enable that business strategy.”
