You need clarity on what you want your business to look like beyond two to three years, not just in the next financial year. What missed opportunities to be strategic are you making, and how do you prioritize your talent and tech for growth beyond the next financial report?
- Single-Threaded Leaders: What are you optimizing for? The basic idea behind single-threaded leadership is that for each initiative or business problem, there is a leader whose focus is that initiative and that initiative alone. That person leads one or more separable, single-threaded teams to deliver the initiative goals unencumbered by competing responsibilities, with full ownership of that goal.

- Technical Engineers: How technical do your leaders need to be? Swann shares his view that leaders need to earn the respect of engineers with a solid understanding of product and technology. When it comes to hiring generalists versus specialists, for many products generalists will do, but you should aim to develop your people into specialists. But be aware – there are trade-offs, which Vlastelica and Swann will guide you through.
