Intellias: Ukraine war will not stop us growing our business
Editor Jon Kennard talks to Roman Hapuchylo from Intellias, a company not only surviving, but thriving, in the most difficult of environments.
Why You Should Care
Keeping the people safe is first priority, but Intellias will continue to grow even as the war rages on.
Find out how they're doing it in this extraordinary conversation from October's Paris event.
The effort some people make to get to UNLEASH World – it was a privilege talking to Roman from Intellias, who left the conflict in his home country to come and experience our Paris event, network, and tell us of his experience at an HR tech company doing business in Ukraine. Here he tells us how he got to Paris…

Roman Hapuchylo: I need to have the appropriate kind of invitation from the Ministry of Defense to leave the country to be present here. Because all men above 18 and below 60, they can’t just leave the country.
Jon Kennard: I don’t know if it feels right, talking about business problems, when we’ve got something so serious as the war going on, we’ll be sure affects everything, doesn’t it?
RH: So if businesses stop working, the economy will stop working and they will not have a chance to win the war. So economies should work, so we can buy weapons and other things to support the army. And we as a business, we continue to do work in that period of time.
So we’ve relocated our people in safe places around the whole of Europe, but the challenge for HR is that there are no policies. What do you do when there’s a war in your country?
JK: Can you see…what does 2023 look like to you in terms of your work, but also the wider issues.
RH: So first of all, war is not going to be excuse to not develop your business. Developing our people is equal to developing our business. For me, my purpose is first of all, to allow my company to grow, so new customers can work with us.
Before the war 95% of our staff were in Ukraine. And we had only Ukraine and Poland has locations where we can do business – right now we’ve opened Colombia, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Bulgaria, India in six months.
And we have offices in all those locations; we hire local people also, Ukrainian engineers who were relocated, testers, business analysts. 60,000 engineers from Ukraine were relocated globally. And as we are am good brand, incredibly well known, we can work with top talents, and attract them to work with us in our companies. For me, 2023 will be developing these locations as well, keep motivating Ukrainian staff, and also developing [business] in Ukraine as well.
So even right now, 60% of all our vacancies are open in Ukraine. So people still do business with Ukraine. They trust us that during that difficult time, we hope to relocate people to safe places because safety is first. Our leaders work to motivate people to [always] be productive. For example the war started on Sunday; on Monday morning, 95% of people were at work. So they were productive for our customers. That’s the challenge and that’s the plan for 2022…
