Headspace Health buys Sayana
This is the latest in a series of mergers and acquisitions by the wellbeing platform.
Why You Should Care
Headspace Health has acquired health and wellness company Sayana.
Discover how Headspace Health intends to leverage the new technology.
Headspace Health, has cultivated a reputation as a leader in the digital mental health space. This is primarily through its platform that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to recommend wellbeing courses.
The company is known for its ease of use, and as a result, many businesses have offered the platform as part of its wellbeing initiatives.
With wellbeing being an increasing priority as companies attempt to combat the ‘Great Resignation’, it is understandable that the likes of Headspace Health are further diversifying their offerings.
The health platform intends to do this with its acquisition of AI-driven mental health and wellness company Sayana.
Sayana was founded in 2018 and is designed to improve the mental wellbeing of users by exploring their feelings and how they interact with events in their lives.
Sayana offers cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), as well as breathing exercises.
The goal of this acquisition is to enable Headspace to offer more personalized self-care content to its growing global member base.
Russell Glass, CEO of Headspace Health, commented on the acquisition: “Amidst a rapidly growing landscape of mental health and wellness apps, Sayana has developed a uniquely engaging member experience backed by world-class AI and machine learning algorithms.
“Sayana’s technology, and most importantly, Sayana’s team, will help us meaningfully advance our product and content strategy as we continue to build the world’s most comprehensive mental health and wellbeing platform.”
Continued mergers and acquisitions for Headspace Health
This acquisition comes shortly after a merger between Headspace and on-demand mental healthcare platform Ginger, which created Headspace Health.
These moves have been designed so that Headspace Health can give its users a larger amount and greater variety of care. This includes creating an integrated experience that covers mental wellbeing needs and more serious clinical action.
At the moment, Headspace Health uses its AI to deliver positive and timely interactions with its staff of behavioral health coaches, therapists, and psychiatrists.
Adding Sayana’s AI functions to this offering will advance Headspace’s capability to personalize member experiences and better understand, support, and improve their wellbeing.
Sayana founder and CEO, Sergey Fayfer, noted that Headspace will now lead their product and contribute engineers to further the platform.
Speaking about this acquisition, Fayfer said: “Since our inception, we’ve been on a mission at Sayana to put self-care in everyone’s pocket.
“We’re thrilled to bring together our technology, engineering, and design expertise to help advance Headspace Health’s efforts to democratize high-quality, affordable mental healthcare around the world.”
