Adecco to help Ukrainian refugee job hunters
Four million Ukrainians have fled the war with Russia.
Why You Should Care
Refugees often struggle to find jobs in their new countries.
But employers and recruiters are stepping up to help them.
Learn more about Adecco's contribution.
It has been over a month since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine. Almost 4,000 civilians have tragically lost their lives in the conflict, and over four million Ukrainians have fled the country.
Their main destinations have been neighboring countries like Poland, Moldova and Hungary – but some have fled further afield to the US and the UK.
A major challenge refugees when fleeing war is finding jobs – there is often a struggle around communicating and applying their skills to roles and companies in new countries.
However, in the case of Ukraine, employers and recruitment companies are stepping up to help these refugees upskill and apply for jobs.
For instance, British entrepreneur Emma Sinclair – CEO and founder of Enterprise Alumni – has brought together a collection of big employers in the UK – M&S, PwC and ASOS are examples – to help support Ukrainians coming to the UK with findings jobs and training.
While in the US, Amazon is one employer working with the Tent Partnership for refugees to offer support to Ukrainians looking for work. Other big brands involve include L’Oréal, Virgin and Deloitte.
Adecco and Ukraine
Now recruitment company Adecco has gotten involved. Adecco is leveraging its job matching platform to support those displaced from the Ukrainian-Russian conflict to find jobs.
To date, 1,100 companies globally are listing jobs on the platform – 3,000 roles have been advertised so far. Adecco also shared it has received 3,200 applications and 6,000 resumes.
Talking about the program, Alain Dehaze, Adecco CEO, said: “As a Group, we work hard every day to deliver on our purpose of making the future work for everyone.
“We have been heartened by the initial uptake of this platform by partner companies, and how it is helping so many displaced Ukrainian people connect to new opportunities.
“We are now taking our support to the next level, enabling them to bridge skills gaps with practical training, and thereby enhancing their ability to secure jobs.
“I would like to extend my deep appreciation to all the companies who have joined this initiative and opened their doors to refugees. Together we can make a meaningful impact in the lives of many.”
This is amazing progress to welcome refugees fleeing conflict. Can this act as a model for refugees coming from beyond Europe?
