73% of US employees feel empowered at work
This is according to Randstad’s latest survey of 2,000 workers.
Why You Should Care
US employees feel more satisfied and empowered at work than ever before.
But it is not stopping them considering quitting their jobs!
What must employers do to stop a mass exodus in 2022?
The ‘Great Resignation’ is not entirely negative; in fact, it is a net positive for employees as it is putting the power back in their hands.
A survey from Randstad shows that US employees are more satisfied with their jobs and feel more empowered in their jobs than they did at the beginning of 2021.
87% feel satisfied with their jobs, 73% now feel they can make changes to their work-life balance and 81% have more clarity regarding professional jobs, according to Randstad’s Workmonitor for the second half of 2021.
Despite this, US workers are expecting more from their employers than ever before; this explains why 49% are looking for a new job at a different company and 84% are reassessing how work fits into their personal lives (rather than the other way round).
Support for skills development
The main thing pushing employees to look for new jobs is that they do not feel like they are being sufficiently rewarded for their skills and work.
So it is no surprise that Randstad found that employees want more support and opportunities for training and professional development. 58% said they struggled to know what skills to develop, and 63% are keen for the government or employers to provide skills assessment tests to help.
US workers also expect more for employers around compensation and benefits (59%), providing them with meaningful work (43%) and a safe working environment (39%) as the ‘Great Resignation’ rages on in 2022.
Now is not the time for employers to drop the ball on employee experience if they want to thrive in the future of work.
Randstad North America CEO Karen Fichuk concluded: “It is no surprise that American workers have adjusted to the new conditions of the labor market in a widespread reassessment of their career trajectories and professional priorities.
“In today’s competitive talent market, companies now need to adjust their hiring strategies, benefit offerings, and workforce development programs to better align with the workforce of the future.”
